“Lying In”: Embracing the Newborn Period

This is pretty cool. I think this is something that most of us unfortunately miss out on in our society and would be something wonderful to embrace. I really think that we rob ourselves of the enjoyment of those early days, weeks, and months in an effort to “bounce back” and appear unfazed. I think that’s why the newborn time is such a struggle for so many of us. We aren’t prepared to just hunker down to experience & embrace it…it’s often considered a sleep deprived, scream-fest that we must temper and power through as quickly as possible. If we had the ability & support to experience “lying in” I think things would be so much more wonderful and less stressful for mama, baby & everyone involved. The newborn phase is precious, beautiful, awe-inspiring and fleeting. Don’t wish it away.
